KERALA HILL STATIONS

Lying on the windward side of the Western Ghats, Kerala has a long chain of lush, mist-clad hill stations that are home to exotic wildlife.  Embroidered with meandering roads, rivulets, springs and waterfalls, they are a different world where tranquility abounds. All the hill resorts in Kerala offer the most enchanting experience of nature in all its virgin beauty. Munnar, Thekkady, and Wayanadu are the prominent hill stations in Kerala

PONMUDI:

Ponmudi meaning "The Golden Mountain" is situated at an altitude of 3200 feet from the sea level at the very fag end of the Western Ghats mountains in the state of Kerala, India. It is only 61 kms. from the state capital Thiruvananthapuram, adorned with bountiful nature and serene surroundings. The often misty weather adds to the charm of the place which is blessed with trickling springs and rivulets. Meadows and valleys add to the quaint and tranquil ambience as tea-estates and cottages deck up the vanity of the otherwise un-corrupt place. You may not get five star luxurious accomodation here but when mother nature is so ample and where the rain and mist play hide and seek, a little less of the materialistic pleasure will still surely make your stay comfortable and memorable. Have a look at the pictures and decide for yourself if its worth a visit.

MUNNAR:

Located in the hill ranges of Kerala 1600 m above the sea, where three mountain streams - Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala - come together, Munnar is a vision in green. Some of the highest tea estates in Kerala can be seen in Munnar, as the hills surrounding this scenic town are carpeted with tea bushes, spice plantations and greenery. There are also opportunities for nature walks, trekking and bird watching tours in Munnar.

RAJAMALA:

Located 15 km from Munnar, Rajamala is known for sightings of the rare Nilgiri Tahr, an antelope-like creature, which is also related to mountain goats and can be seen on the hills in this region.

PEERUMEDU:

Located 915 m above sea level, at a distance of around 40 km from Kumily in Idukki district of central Kerala, this beautiful hill station in the Western Ghats is known for its green landscape.

THRISSANKU AND PEERU HILLS:

Located 4 km from Peermede, these adjacent hills are known for their gentle hills, which provide opportunities for nature treks and walks along the winding hill roads.

RAMAKALMEDU:

Located at a distace of 16 km from Nedumkandam on the Thekkady-Munnar Road, Ramakalmedu is a beautiful hill station, which offers fresh mountain air and pleasant views of gentle hills all around.

These are only some of the best-known hill stations in Kerala. There are many more scenic destinations that you can see in the Western Ghats on tours of the hill stations in Kerala
